The Pharmacy Board of Australia acknowledges the increasingly important role pharmacists play in delivering better health across Australia, as we celebrate World Pharmacists Day on 25 September 2024.
World Pharmacist Day marks the anniversary of the inception of the International Pharmaceutical Federation. This years’ theme focuses on how pharmacists are helping to meet global health challenges, including lack of access to health services and health workforce shortages.
Pharmacy Board of Australia Chair Brett Simmonds says pharmacists are essential to good global health and have repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to the health of their patients.
‘Along with their longstanding roles in providing access to essential medicines and health and medicines advice, they are increasingly involved in activities such as disease prevention through administering vaccinations, health screening, and stewardship programs.’
Mr Simmonds said the day is an important reminder to celebrate the 38,610 pharmacists around Australia who work tenaciously to meet the health needs of their patients.
‘World Pharmacists Day is an opportunity to recognise your achievements and your ongoing contribution to improving healthcare in your local communities, as well as your broader roles in addressing global health challenges.
‘Thank you all for the crucial work that you do, and happy World Pharmacists Day.’
